My Beloved Poem - Wild Bees by James K Baxter

Wild Bees by James K Baxter

Often in summer, on a tarred bridge plank standing,
Or downstream between willows, a safe Ophelia drifting
In a rented boat - I had seen them come and go,
Those wild bees swift as tigers, their gauze wings a-glitter
In passionless industry, clustering black at the crevice
Of a rotten cabbage tree, where their hive was hidden low

But never strolled too near. Till one half-cloudy evening
Of ripe January, my friends and I
Came, gloved and masked to the eyes like plundering desperadoes,
To smoke them out. Quiet beside the stagnant river
We trod wet grasses down, hearing the crickets chitter
And waiting for light to drain from the wounded sky.

Before we reached the hive their sentries saw us
And sprang invisible through the darkening air.
Stabbed, and died in stinging. The hive woke. Poisonous fuming
Of sulphur filled the hollow trunk, and crawling
Blue flame sputtered - yet still their suicidal
Live raiders dived and clung to our hands and hair.

O it was Carthage under the Roman torches,
Or loud with flames and falling timber, Troy!
A job well botched. Half of the honey melted
And half the rest young grubs. Through earth-black smouldering ashes
And maimed bees groaning, we drew our plunder.
Little enough their gold, and slight our joy.

Fallen then the city of instinctive wisdom.
Tragedy is written distinct and small:
A hive burned on a cool night in summer.
But loss is a precious stone to me, a nectar
Distilled in time, preaching the truth of winter
To the fallen heart that does not cease to fall.

My Beloved Drink

The person that invented Innocent smoothies is a genius! They taste delicious, have funny little anecdotes on the bottle, and they actually do you good, what more do you need? Whenever i feel unhealthy (very often as I live off chocolate) I have one and feel like I am a little closer to the energy levels needed to take on the world. During winter they also do bottles with knitted hats on and when you buy one of these bottles, not only do you get a snazzy hat, but they donate 25p to Age UK. I currently have 2 hats, and really want to knit some for next year, as it is a really good charity that helps care for the elderly in England. The real charm of Innocent smoothies is that they make you smile, and when its cold and rainy anything that make your day a little brighter is certainly a good thing!

My Beloved Lanvin For H&M Shoes

I adore these shoes, so much so that when the collection came online I went on for 2 hours, just refreshing the page to get onto the lanvin area. Needless to say it was too busy every time, and these shoes have become a dream/will soon be an ebay purchase. These, to me, are utterly perfect- the print, the bow, the not ridiculously high heel! You can wear them with a cocktail dress, sex up jeans, or with some sharp tailored black trousers and a eye-popping silk top. The choice is wonderfully endless.
So to anyone who owns these shoes, I take my hat off to you for surviving the stampede.

Just read that there are rumours that the next H&M designer collaboration is Tom Ford! EVERYONE needs a little Tom Ford in their life!

My Beloved Salvatore Ferragamo Shoes

They are a bit battered and bruised. They have multiple scuffs, and really need re-heeling, but I have always wanted these classic pumps. So when I found some in Absolute Vintage a while back I just had to get them. They also fit like a glove, so I was completely convinced this pair were in fact made for me. What modern day Cinderella needs a glass slipper when you have Salvatore Ferragamo navy pumps?!

My Beloved Scilly Adventures

The summer before last me and my boyfriend went on an holiday to the beautiful Isles of Scilly. I fell in love with every island, and how kind everyone is! We had so many good times, many of which involved seals, home-made fudge/ice-cream, and boats. It is one of the most stunning places in England, I would certainly recommend it. Can't wait for my next trip back! Hope you like our snaps, but they don't do it justice!

My Beloved Erdem Top

I LOVE ERDEM! The Outnet has just added some pieces from last seasons/years collections, and I have allowed myself to fall in love with this silk tank. Although I am in a bit of a conundrum as to whether I should buy it due to my student budget, I am pretty much decided that I need a bit of Erdem in my life (who doesn't?!).

My Beloved McQueen Dress

At the age of 13 I fell in love with fashion. For about a year I had been reading British Vogue and Teen Vogue, and me and my mum decided that we would travel up to London and admire the beautiful dresses of the Bond Street retailers. I was dressed in fashion forward manner- BEST JEANS!! So after a quick stop in the lovely Patisserie Valerie near The Ritz, we headed off for my first foray into the world of high fashion. I had loved the craftsmanship and pure beauty of Alexander McQueen's designs, so when I saw his name above a large shop front I practically ran across the road (playing it cool obviously). After a few moments of looking around, I found this beautiful dress (above). I decided that I had to try it on, but clearly being a naive 13 year old, didn't know my size. The kind shop assistants (I really can't praise them enough), looked at me and decided my size, then directed me towards the fitting room. Trying it on very carefully, I appeared, and literally felt like a princess. My mother was speechless, I was smiling like I would never stop, and the assistants offered me shoes, to see what I would look like! They gave me skyscrapers, beautiful snakeskin courts/skyscrapers! They even let me look in the huge mirror in the store so I could see myself properly!

I think at that moment I had never been that happy before. McQueen (with the help of his very kind employees, who clearly knew we were not going to buy the dress) made me into the belle of a ball, and during a very hard time of my life, made me feel like I was actually beautiful. For that I am eternally grateful, and when I heard of his death I knew that fashion world had lost a genius.

My First Blog!

MY FIRST POST!
Some of my friends said that I should a blog on fashion. So here I am, actually doing it! Post's probably wont just be about clothes, but do expect lots of fashion based gossip and random information. At the moment I am a student studying English Literature in the South of England. Having a great time with some lovely people, whilst aspiring to buy Alexander McQueen and Terry De Havilland wedges!
Btw, the name of my blog refers to my beloved Mabel. My bright blue Mulberry bag! I now own a Mulberry Daria, and have about 50 more Mulberry bags lined up as new purchases, but my beloved Mabel will always be my favourite!
Happy Reading
